What if I can't afford to hire a coach?

The typical "gotcha" response to this type of a question is to ask "Can you afford not to hire a coach?" I think that this response is not entirely helpful. Instead, I think it is more helpful to acknowledge that there are many different "coaching" options. Here are a few suggestions you can consider:

  • There are so many life coaches out there. Look for one that falls in your price range.
  • If you can't afford individual coaching, then you might consider group coaching.
  • If group coaching isn't your thing, you can look for books on self-help and coaching.

Shouldn't I work only with a certified coach?

Whether or not you work with a certified coach is your personal decision. I believe the most important factor in choosing a coach is finding somebody who will help you achieve the outcomes you want to produce in your life. I think that participating in a certification program can have a beneficial impact on one's ability to coach. I don't think that it is a requirement for or a guarantee of success in being an effective coach. If you feel more comfortable narrowing your choices to people with certification, then I highly encourage you to follow your instinct.

What makes you qualified to be a coach?

My honest and sincere answer to this question is that I believe I have great insight and I ask great questions. Additionally, I have a passion for making the world a better place. One way that I fuel this passion is to help people to pursue their true purpose in life.

Why would I hire you?

Since I have admitted that I have no certification and that I have not worked with any coaches, I can understand that you may have concerns about hiring me. Let me do my best to put those concerns to rest.

Why do you charge (X instead of Y/so much)?

The truth is that settings one's fee is somewhat arbitrary. Setting a fee is a combination of many factors, including: one's sense of value one provides, supply/demand for one's services, the going rates in the field, one's expenses and lifestyle, the type of clients with which one desires to work, and many other intangible things. My stated fee is a result of having considered all of those factors.

What do you need help accomplishing in your life?
How much is it worth to you to accomplish those things?

How many coaches have you worked with?

I have undergone counseling, but I have not yet worked with any Life Coaches.

Are you certified?

I am NOT a certified Life Coach.

Weight Loss: An illustration of the difference between coach, therapist, consultant, and mentor

Here is a sample illustration of how the different service providers would work with a client who asks for help with weight loss. Note that no one approach is better than any other approach. 1) The two sites are intended to serve two entirely different populations.

How do you know that life is meant to be meaningful and fulfilling?

While I can't prove that life is meant to be meaningful and fulfilling, I absolutely know that I want my life to be meaningful and fulfilling. I also know that I want that same thing for other people.
