What if my purpose won't make any money?
In the last blog I said that I believe that every one of us is meant to accomplish something in this lifetime that will have a beneficial impact on the world. If we are providing benefit, then we are entitled to be paid for providing that benefit. The question is how much value others place on the benefit you provide by living your purpose. I propose that when you find the people you are meant to serve they will value your purpose highly. Additionally, there are many ways you can fulfill your purpose; the chances are good that you can find a way to live your purpose and generate an adequate income. But, for the sake of argument, let's assume that your purpose won't earn significant money. What is one supposed to do then?
The important points to keep in mind in this situation is that there are a lot of ways to earn an income, you have a certain amount of control over what constitutes an adequate income, and you don't need to approach this situation as an all-or-nothing decision. So, I suggest that you determine a way to earn sufficient money that won't prevent you from having the time and energy to also live your purpose. You may need to engage is some creative thinking. But, the time and effort you invest in creating a purposeful life will pay for itself many times over.
Don't judge your life's purpose by what others find impressive or by how much money it will generate. Instead, recognize that once you have discovered your purpose it can help guide you in the decisions you make in how you structure your life. It is possible to fulfill your purpose and earn an adequate income.
How much money would be enough for you if you were living your life on purpose?
